VIRUDHUNAGAR: District Collector J Meghanath Reddy has revoked the Mettamalai Panchayat Chairman’s check signing authority for preventing the Special Investigation Team from inspecting documents related to a corruption case on Monday.

In a statement, the Collector said that the Block Development Officer (Village Panchayat) of Sattur has been authorized to sign Mettamalai panchayat checks until further notice.

The president also prevented the implementation of the Jal Jeevan mission program in his panchayat, Meghanath Reddy added.

The collector used his emergency power under Section 203 of the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act 1994 to overrule the President’s check signing authority.
