The Virginia National Guard is now offering $20,000 signing bonuses to those who enlist in an increased number of military occupational specialties. Previously, only one MOS qualified for the first level $20,000 bonus, while two additional jobs offered smaller bonus amounts. Now, soldiers who enlist in one of seven career areas may be eligible for the $20,000 bonus.

The Grand Bonus expansion means more bonuses for new soldiers entering more career fields in more corners of the state.

“I think the most important reason is so more warriors can get bonus money in the MOS they really want for their career, instead of settling for a secondary MOS just because they need it. or want the bonus money,” explained Master Sgt. Paul Johnson, the senior enlisted chief for the Virginia National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion. He sees the extended availability of bonuses as a retention tool, explaining that soldiers who earn a MOS they’re excited about are more likely to continue their military service.

Through June 30, 2022, the following MOS are offering $20,000 sign-on bonuses to qualified individuals who have not completed prior service:

Infantryman 11B
Horizontal Construction Engineer 12N
Gun 13B crew member
13F Fire Support Specialist
Motor Transport Operator 88M
91L Construction Equipment Repairer
92F Petroleum Lab Specialist

In addition to MOS bonuses, individuals may be eligible for an off-peak ship bonus for training outside of the busy summer months, as well as additional benefits including state and federal tuition assistance, a monthly stipend available for those attending school and low-cost health, dental and life insurance.
