Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur contact Atalanta to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi

Tottenham Hotspur have contacted Atalanta’s head of recruitment Lee Congerton over a possible transfer of midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, according to Il Giorno (h/t Sun).

The Ukraine international was heavily linked with a move to Spurs during the recent transfer window but has remained in Italy. Since then, he has struggled to gain playing time this season under manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

He has made 11 Serie A appearances this campaign but started in just four of them. It’s clear that the versatile midfielder has lost his cemented place in the starting XI.

He’s in the final year of his contract with the Bergamo-based club (Transfermarkt), which is why Spurs could complete the move for a whopping £13million. This deal should be a no-brainer and fans would be happy to hear that Spurs have made a move to sign the Ukrainian.

Malinovskyi at Spurs?

Malinovskyi is an attacking midfielder who can also play in central midfield as well as a second striker. He might add the sparkle we need in the middle of the park.

Pierre-Emile Hobjberg and Rodrigo Bentancur have done a very good job under the direction of Antonio Conte. However, neither are the elite creative forces.

It would be interesting to see if Atalante would be willing to part ways with him this winter. This could be their last chance to cash in on him if he doesn’t renew his contract at Gewiss Stadium.

At 29, he still has some football left in his legs. The former KRC Genk and Shakhtar Donetsk is yet to play in the Premier League for his entire career and now might be a good time to take that step – if he’s interested in coming to England.
