Saudi Transport and Logistics Minister Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser has signed a maritime transport cooperation agreement with Oman, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

Al-Jasser signed the agreement with the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of Oman, Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali during his visit to Muscat, SPA said.

The agreement aims to strengthen areas of cooperation in the sector of maritime transport of passengers and goods, to facilitate the traffic of commercial vessels, to develop economic relations between the two countries and to contribute to increasing the efficiency of maritime services. maritime transport.

It also aims to facilitate the transfer of technology and encourage maritime education and training, which helps locate vital industry, as well as providing the necessary facilities for the construction and maintenance of ships in both countries, to the protection of the marine environment and the reduction of environmental pollution.

The Saudi Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics and Acting Head of the Public Transport Authority, Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih, also signed a memorandum of understanding for the mutual recognition of certificates issued under the provisions of the International Agreement on Levels of Training, Certification and Shift Work for Sea Workers of 1978 and its amendments with the Omani Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

Another Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with Al Maawali to raise the levels of quality and efficiency of officers and sailors working on board vessels of the two countries, and their ability to carry out their duties and meet optimum standards. maritime safety, property protection, preservation of the marine environment, and to monitor developments and exchanges of expertise in the transfer of knowledge, training, qualification and assessment programs for issue certificates.
