Gavi won’t sign a new contract if Barcelona sign Bernardo Silva

Barcelona midfield wonderkid Gavi wouldn’t sign a new contract with the club if he brings in Manchester City superstar Bernardo Silva.

According beteveBarcelona wonderkid Gavi could pull out of contract talks with the club if he manages to secure the signing of Bernardo Silva from Manchester City this summer.

Gavi broke into Barcelona’s first-team setup last year, making his debut under former manager Ronald Koeman. From then on, the teenager didn’t look back, establishing himself as a regular in the team under Xavi Hernandez while also being part of the Spanish national team.

The youngster enjoyed a superb decisive campaign, registering two goals and six assists in 34 La Liga appearances. However, Gavi is in the final year of his contract with Barcelona and hasn’t signed a new contract yet. Talks over an extension have been ongoing for some time now, but a deal has yet to be finalized.

Gavi rejected a lower offer from Blaugrana earlier, after which productive discussions took place and an agreement is said to be close. It has been claimed that Barcelona will complete the process of signing his contract once the midfielder turns 18 as this would allow them to tie him down to a long-term deal of five years.

Gavi celebrated his 18th birthday last Friday but there appear to be a delay in signing the contract as Beteve reports the midfielder may not sign a new contract if Manchester City star Bernardo Silva arrives in Barcelona this summer.

Barcelona pushed hard to sign the 27-year-old Portugal international this summer and are suspected of having an agreement with him on personal terms. Recently, they made contact with Manchester City to try to make a deal. However, their attempt to land Silva could lead to problems in their efforts to extend Gavi’s contract.

The report states that the Gavi camp had informed Barcelona as early as June that they would not put pen to paper on a new deal if the club brought in Silva. That might be because signing the 27-year-old could eat away at the midfielder’s playing time, especially if Barcelona fail to offload Frenkie de Jong. So it will be interesting to see if there is a problem with Gavi’s contract extension and if things go well for Barcelona.
