New Delhi, September 17 (PTI) The EDMC and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) on Friday signed a pact to jointly identify and develop sites for the execution of rooftop solar energy projects, said responsible.

The MoU was signed between Chief Engineer of East Delhi Municipal Corporation Sandeep Sharma and a representative of SECI on behalf of the two bodies, to optimize solar power in areas under his jurisdiction, they said. .

EDMC commissioner Vikas Anand said the agreement aims to collaborate and jointly undertake the identification and development of sites for the execution of rooftop solar energy projects.

As part of this project, municipal buildings, including 220 schools and 70 community halls, as well as 40 health department establishments, including hospitals and office buildings, can be used for the installation of solar power plants on roofs by SECI, the EDMC said in a statement.

The mayor of East Delhi, Shyam Sunder Aggarwal, and the chairman of its standing committee, Beer Singh Panwar, were also present on the occasion.

Aggarwal said solar power is considered the most viable form of green energy in Delhi and has the potential to reduce municipal energy spending and reduce its reliance on unsustainable fossil fuels. To achieve this potential, a rapid increase in solar power capacity is needed, he said.

Panwar said solar power plants were operating successfully in EDMC areas and generated Rs 20 lakh income from discos in 2020-21, towards the export of surplus energy, after responding to the total energy demand of nine municipal school buildings, and no energy consumption payments are made for these buildings.

The EDMC has already installed a 325 kWp solar power plant capacity in 10 municipal buildings, including an area office in Shahdara (north) and nine school buildings on an ecological model during the year 2018-19, a-t -he adds. PTI KND RHL
