TotalEnergies and AF Offshore Decom have signed a contract for the engineering, preparation, removal, transport, dismantling and recycling (EPRD) of 10 production platforms of the L7 field in the Dutch sector of the sea of the North. The total weight of these facilities is approximately 17,000 metric tons and the goal is to recycle up to 98% of all materials. The scope also includes installation works and preparations for retrofitting infrastructure for future use for carbon capture and storage (CCS).

The structures will be prepared for removal and lifted by vessels selected and suitable for local supply chain use and transported to the purpose-built recycling facility for oil and gas infrastructure, AF Environmental Base Vessels in Norway. This execution strategy responds to our common ambition to achieve a sustainable, cost and energy efficient, safe and predictable project. About the L7 field
The L7 field was one of the first large offshore gas fields on the Dutch continental shelf. The initial discovery was in the late 1960s and development of various reservoirs took place throughout the 1970s and 1980s. From 15 producing wells, the field produced over 21 billion m3 of gas natural (~140 Mboe) with a recovery factor > 80%. After 40 years in operation, the facilities ceased production in 2017. With 54-bed accommodation, the central complex has been key to company operations and a second home for many for decades. After de-energizing and cleaning, the facilities were left in a state of hibernation awaiting removal or refitting.
